4/20/2025 0 Comments Pueblo Perfection: How Santa Fe's Cultural Tapestry Creates Unforgettable Retreat ExperiencesFirst Impressions of The Land of Enchantment I was absolutely buzzing for my first-ever trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico (actually, my first venture into New Mexico altogether!). Thanks to the incredible Justin Cox from the Santa Fe CVB, who graciously collected me from Albuquerque airport and played personal tour guide during our hour-long drive into the city. Pro tip: While Santa Fe does have its own airport, it's quite small with limited flights, so most visitors fly into ABQ. During our drive, Justin shared fascinating tidbits about the region's surprisingly high elevation (more on my battle with that later!), the nearby southern Rocky Mountains where you can actually ski (yes, it snows there!), the reservations along our route, the "other" Las Vegas in New Mexico, and the Sandia mountain range – meaning "watermelon" in Spanish due to the stunning sunsets that paint the hills in vibrant watermelon hues. Entering downtown Santa Fe felt like stepping through a time portal into a different era and culture – one I'd only glimpsed in films before. Home to America's oldest church, the city's adobe pueblo buildings line narrow streets and rarely exceed 3-4 stories. I'll admit, I wasn't quite sure what to expect from New Mexico's capital – perhaps taller, more modern structures with a typical city vibe? Instead, I was delightfully surprised by how dedicated this wonderful town is to preserving its deep cultural heritage and history. Beyond downtown, the surrounding areas feel refreshingly rural, with expansive open spaces, horses, and charming ranch-style homes. Where to Stay: Santa Fe's Most Group-Friendly Accommodations The accommodations in Santa Fe beautifully balance luxury with cultural authenticity. Hotel Santa Fe, Inn & Spa at Loretto, and Inn on the Alameda all deliver the high-end amenities you'd expect while maintaining the area's cozy cultural charm. My brief stay at Las Palomas was genuinely impressive. Perfect for slightly larger groups by Santa Fe standards, this wellness-focused resort (which is 100% up my alley!) offers complimentary yoga sessions and healthy breakfasts at their entirely non-smoking property. All guest rooms feature fireplaces, and visitors have access to a heated pool area and fitness center. With ample event and meeting space for groups up to 120, plus 63 sleeping rooms just three short blocks from walkable downtown, it's brilliantly positioned. They even provide complimentary shuttles for nearby destinations, including downtown transport when the weather turns chilly – as it certainly did during my visit! From check-in to bedtime, complimentary water and teas are readily available, and their hospitality is genuinely unmatched. The remainder of my stay was at La Fonda on the Plaza in their downtown square and conference center. Wow! What an incredible location with a fascinating history! La Fonda occupies a treasured place in Santa Fe's story – part of a rich hospitality tradition predating American independence. City records indicate it sits on the site of the town's first inn, established when Spaniards founded the city in 1607, making it America's oldest hotel corner! The most memorable Santa Fe gatherings happen at La Fonda, with over 20,000 square feet of elegant event space across eight breathtaking venues, suitable for any occasion. Authentic architectural touches like hammered tin chandeliers, inviting kiva fireplaces, and handcrafted terracotta tiles provide a genuine Santa Fe experience, while modern amenities such as WiFi throughout and a 24-hour business center ensure seamless professional functionality. Beyond the stunning Southwestern-decorated event spaces, La Fonda offers the most delectable catering in Santa Fe. From classic New Mexican fare to hearty Italian specialties, their robust culinary selection can immerse your guests in regional culture or take them on a themed culinary journey. I stayed in the property's newest section, the exclusive Terrace Inn. Its 15 lavish rooms and suites feature stylishly appointed furnishings that blend minimalist, clean lines with cultural elements and original regional art, including Navajo Chief hand-woven headboards and refinished 100-year-old heart pine flooring. Each room opens onto a private patio or balcony overlooking either the beautiful Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis de Assisi or the historic Loretto Chapel and sun-drenched Sangre de Cristo mountains. The Terrace also has its own dedicated and exceptionally hospitable concierge. Exploring the Downtown Plaza La Fonda sits directly on the Plaza, a vibrant gathering place for shoppers and culture enthusiasts alike. Needing shoes that could transition from networking reception to gym time (and finding the perfect pair!), I window-shopped the area until catching sight of someone wearing a work shirt that said "Olive Oils and Balsamics." My mission became finding this place! After tasting a delicious selection of flavored olive oils and balsamics, I decided my carry-on would become a checked bag, as I simply had to bring some bottles home. The area features numerous shops offering jewelry, turquoise, and other handcrafted items that locals proudly promote. I was particularly delighted not to spot a single Starbucks or chain fast-food restaurant anywhere in the vicinity. Unforgettable Group Activities The Sky Railway provides a fantastically unique activity for both individuals and groups. Born in 2020 from the ashes of Santa Fe Southern, prominent local residents joined forces to preserve the historic 141-year-old railroad. Led by a creative team including George R.R. Martin, Sky Railway crafts entertainment adventure rail journeys that make it one of the most original short-line railroads in the country – perfectly befitting "The City Different." You can even customize activities and music throughout the train's various covered and open cars! A Natural Sanctuary for Wellness Retreats
Santa Fe's unique energy makes it an exceptional destination for wellness-focused gatherings. The region's pristine high-desert landscape provides a natural sanctuary that instantly decompresses even the most stressed executives. Local resorts have embraced this tranquility, incorporating indigenous healing traditions alongside modern wellness approaches. From outdoor yoga sessions against the backdrop of the Sangre de Cristo mountains to specialized spa treatments utilizing local ingredients like blue corn, piñon, and sage, Santa Fe offers immersive healing experiences rooted in centuries of tradition. Many properties feature dedicated wellness spaces that seamlessly blend indoor comfort with outdoor beauty through floor-to-ceiling windows capturing those famous New Mexico sunsets. Beyond scheduled activities, the city's walkable layout, clean mountain air, and slower pace naturally encourage mindfulness—participants find themselves naturally disconnecting from digital distractions and reconnecting with themselves and their colleagues in more meaningful ways. For corporate groups seeking true reset and rejuvenation, Santa Fe's wellness offerings can be easily customized into your itinerary, whether as dedicated sessions or woven throughout your entire program as a consistent theme of balance and restoration. A Quick Note on Elevation One important heads-up: Santa Fe sits 7,000 feet above sea level, and while I've never had issues with elevation before (I live just hours from Tahoe, after all), this was a different story. During daylight hours, my symptoms were barely noticeable (perhaps a minor headache my first day), but nights were challenging. Returning to my hotel room by 9pm meant lying awake until at least 1am with my heart pounding harder and faster than normal, affecting my sleep and leaving me somewhat drained the next day. Fortunately, I had brought some Ylang Ylang essential oil that helped lower my heart rate a bit. If you have blood pressure issues, consider this your friendly warning! Despite this unexpected challenge, it absolutely won't deter me from visiting again. I'm a devoted fan after my first trip and look forward to bringing more retreats and corporate groups to the area very soon. Why Santa Fe Should Be on Your Event Planning Radar Santa Fe offers historic surroundings, enduring cultures, timeless beauty, and sophisticated cuisine and hospitality, making it perfect for your next meeting, conference, or convention. Founded in 1610 and known as "The City Different," Santa Fe is America's oldest state capital. The city's signature adobe architecture, tree-shaded Plaza, and winding streets make it feel more like an international destination than one of America's most historic places. The friendly locals, relaxed pace, pleasant climate, and warm hospitality make this distinctive city one of the country's top destinations. I simply cannot overstate how thoroughly I enjoyed my first (and long overdue) visit to Santa Fe – from the laid-back atmosphere and captivating pueblo buildings to the absolutely mouthwatering New Mexican cuisine, art, and rich culture. 4/14/2025 4 Comments Finding Balance: How SITE NCC and Silverado Resort Are Transforming Wellness in Incentive TravelIf you think wellness retreats are all green juice and silent meditation, let me be the first to tell you—you're delightfully mistaken. As a passionate member of SITE Northern California (Society for Incentive Travel Excellence) and someone who's navigated her own health journey, I can confirm that when wellness meets incentive travel, magic happens. And sometimes, that magic involves wine. (Hey, it's Napa, after all!) When Passion Meets Purpose My journey to wellness advocacy wasn't exactly straightforward. After battling severe health issues in my late 20s/early 30s, I emerged with a newfound perspective and a mission: to integrate genuine wellness experiences into the travel and events industry. Beginning my wellness certifications in 2013 and re-entering the events world in 2016 after a five-year "health sabbatical," I've been on a mission to redefine what wellness means in the context of exceptional travel experiences. Fast forward to 2020, and I proudly added both CITP (Certified Incentive Travel Professional) and CMP (Certified Meeting Professional) to my credentials. Because if you're going to advocate for something, you might as well become an expert, right? SITE NCC: Where Wellness Gets Serious Play As part of SITE's Northern California chapter, I've found my tribe within the Social Impact Committee, where we focus on wellness, sustainability, and philanthropy. This isn't your typical "let's feel good about ourselves" committee—we're committed to creating meaningful change in how incentive travel approaches wellbeing. In March, SITENCC hosted an educational program at Silverado Resort in Napa that showcased exactly what wellness in incentive travel can (and should!) look like. The day kicked off with a thought-provoking panel discussion over brunch, followed by immersive wellness activities that had everyone forgetting to check their phones, outside of taking pictures. If that's not success, I don't know what is. The Well-X Lounge deserves its own paragraph (and quite possibly its own fan club). I could have spent all day in this wellness wonderland! Massage stations for every body part imaginable, intuitive card readings (my "Integrity" card gently suggested I might need to dial back the multitasking and embrace more meditation—message received, universe), facial treatments, wellness shots, and an activity on another room was - yes—wine tasting with chef-prepared bites. Because balance. Silverado Resort: Where Wellness Meets Wow Factor If you haven't visited Silverado Resort lately, let me paint you a picture: nestled in the heart of Napa Valley, this property masterfully balances rustic charm with sophisticated luxury. And those recently upgraded sleeping rooms? Complete with actual, real-life fireplaces that make you want to curl up with a good book and never leave. What makes Silverado particularly spectacular for wellness-focused events is their thoughtful attention to detail. Their culinary team understands that "healthy options" doesn't mean "sad salad in the corner." During our event, the variety of nourishing yet indulgent food options throughout the day kept everyone energized without that dreaded mid-afternoon slump. Though the pickleball activity had to be nixed due to weather, the yoga session was in full effect. Here's the thing about incorporating wellness into your incentive travel programs: it's not just a nice-to-have anymore; it's essential. When attendees feel their best physically and mentally, they engage more deeply with the experience you've created. They remember it longer. They return to work genuinely recharged rather than needing a vacation from their vacation. Silverado Resort understands this intrinsically. Beyond your basic fitness center, the property offers championship golf courses, a world-class spa, tennis and pickleball courts, diverse dining options, cooking classes, wine tours, and even hot air balloon rides a stones throw away. All this while providing versatile event spaces that can accommodate groups of various sizes. Taking Wellness Beyond the Buzzword
What I've learned through my work and my own health journey is that true wellness isn't about checking boxes—it's about creating environments where people can reconnect with themselves and each other. It's about understanding that sometimes wellness looks like a sunrise yoga session, and sometimes it looks like a perfectly paired wine tasting followed by a massage. Special thanks to Fatima Sousi from SF Travel for being my personal host for this transformative day, and a shout-out to Claus Porto for the luxurious gifting soaps that reminded us all that self-care continues long after the event ends. Ready to elevate your next incentive travel program with thoughtful wellness integration that your attendees will actually enjoy? Whether you're considering Silverado Resort, another Napa gem, or destinations beyond, I'd love to help you craft the perfect wellness-focused itinerary that keeps everyone engaged, energized, and eagerly awaiting your next event. Because when wellness is done right, nobody misses the sad salad. Promise. While summer in Sonoma certainly has its charms, there's something undeniably magical about this wine country paradise when the temperatures drop. As your resident event and travel planning guru with an eye for the extraordinary, let me share why Sonoma County should be at the top of your cool-weather destination list – especially if you're craving boutique luxury experiences that go beyond the typical wine tour. The Stavrand: Where Luxury Meets Laid-Back Perfection Let's start with a property that stole my heart faster than you can say "pour me another glass." The Stavrand isn't just a hotel – it's a six-acre sanctuary that earned its Michelin Guide "exceptional" Two Key rating for good reason. With just 21 rooms, this intimate estate is the perfect buyout opportunity for private retreats. Corporate teams seeking a transformative offsite or social groups celebrating special occasions will find themselves enveloped in attentive yet refreshingly unpretentious service. My favorite touches? The daily welcome wine tasting happy hour from 5-6pm in their lobby (because why wait until dinner?) and the adorable s'mores kits for their fire pits. Pro tip: If you charm the staff, they might even open their wine tasting bar exclusively for your group after hours. Talk about VIP treatment! The property's Russian River location puts you just ten minutes from charming Guerneville and within easy reach of coastal beaches, redwood hikes, and some of California's finest tasting rooms. But honestly, with the level of high-touch hospitality we experienced, you might never want to leave the grounds. Forest bathing in the redwoods, anyone? The Madrona: Where History Meets Contemporary Elegance For those who appreciate properties with a story to tell, The Madrona wraps you in magic from the moment you arrive. This stately manor welcomes curious travelers with an experience drenched in beauty, style, and thoughtful details. I stayed in one of the carriage house rooms, which featured an artistic foyer wall design made with actual horse hair (talk about conversation starter!), heated bathroom floors (heaven during cooler months), a charming old-time radio, and fresh oranges plucked straight from property trees. The restaurant boasts two Michelin stars, making it a culinary destination in its own right. Between gorgeous spaces perfect for intimate events and the possibility of learning to saber a champagne bottle (yes, that happened!), The Madrona delivers unforgettable experiences alongside its impeccable wine list. And if you're really lucky, you might find a whiskey and chocolate pairing waiting in your quarters after dinner. Farmhouse Inn: Authentic Sonoma Luxury with Deep Roots For good reason, Farmhouse Inn has been rated among California's top hotels and was once ranked #8 in the world by Travel + Leisure. Beyond the luxurious accommodations – ranging from spacious suites with vaulted ceilings and woodland views to charming, cozy retreats – what makes this property special is its authentic connection to Sonoma. Owned by fifth-generation Sonoma farmers still deeply involved in the property experience, Farmhouse Inn offers connections that chain hotels simply can't match. A stay here feels less like checking into a luxury resort and more like joining a particularly stylish family with exceptional taste. Don't miss the Wellness Barn, where holistic treatments incorporating local remedies provide the perfect antidote to our chaotic world. It's a space designed for slowing down, connecting with nature, and finding your unique balance – essential components for any successful retreat. DaVero Farms & Winery: Where Sustainability Meets Absolutely Adorable Pigs If you're looking for a venue that combines wine, food, and nature with a commitment to sustainability, DaVero Farms & Winery in Healdsburg delivers all that and more. Their biodynamic approach to farming and traditional winemaking methods produce Italian varietal wines and olive oils that truly express the terroir. Their versatile spaces accommodate up to 200 guests, making it ideal for celebrations, corporate events, or educational seminars. But let's get to what you really want to know – yes, their pigs are ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE! I'm also still dreaming about their flavored olive oils and balsamics available in the gift shop. Trust me on this: do not leave without experiencing their wine and cheese & charcuterie pairings. Beg, if you have to, but best to plan ahead! Vintners Resort: The Quintessential Wine Country Sanctuary With 92 acres at your disposal, Vintners Resort transforms into your private sanctuary, complete with an Event Center boasting 10,000 square feet of indoor space plus gorgeous event lawns and outdoor venues that can host up to 250 guests. For the ultimate exclusive experience, their 78-room property is available for buyouts, giving your group complete access to restaurants, spa, and recreational amenities. Fill a relaxing day with strolls through the vineyard trail, rejuvenating spa treatments, and a friendly bocce ball competition. Don't miss John Ash, one of Sonoma's pioneering farm-to-table restaurants overlooking vineyard views. Lunch was delicious and the scene was breathtaking, even on a cloudy day! Culinary Adventures: The Matheson & Roof 106 No luxury retreat is complete without exceptional dining, and The Matheson and Roof 106 in Healdsburg Plaza deliver in spades. Chefs Nate Davis and Dustin Valette have created a kitchen of creative collaboration, with an ever-changing menu reflecting micro-seasonal offerings that celebrate the land. For a truly special evening with your group, opt for the chef's menu with wine pairings – your guests will thank you later. And you absolutely must try their clarified margarita – so crystal clear it looks like water but packs all the flavor – you have to taste it to believe it! The Mezzanine private dining space, floating above the main kitchen, provides the perfect vibrant yet intimate setting for winemaker dinners or corporate gatherings. Ready to Elevate Your Sonoma Experience?
Whether you're planning a corporate retreat that actually gets results, a luxury incentive trip that motivates top performers, or a wellness getaway that rejuvenates body and soul, Sonoma County offers boutique experiences that go far beyond wine tasting (though there's plenty of that too!). The cooler months reveal a different side of wine country – one where fireside chats, misty morning walks, and intimate indoor gatherings create connections that last long after the trip ends. Ready to craft your perfect Sonoma County experience? As someone who's explored these hidden gems firsthand, I'd love to help you discover the perfect property and experiences for your next event or retreat. Because when it comes to luxury travel planning, sometimes you need someone who knows which pigs are the cutest and where to find that perfect glass of pinot noir. Let's chat about creating an unforgettable experience tailored to your unique needs! 3/19/2025 0 Comments Finding Calm at High Altitude: A Travel Wellness Tip from the Land of EnchantmentThere's something magical about stepping into a landscape that feels entirely new to your senses. The earthy tones, the quality of light, the expansive skies—this was my experience visiting New Mexico for the first time recently. As I explored the artistic streets of Santa Fe and soaked in the vibrant culture of Albuquerque, I was captivated not just as a traveler but as an event planner constantly on the lookout for extraordinary retreat destinations. But today, I'm not here to tell you about the turquoise jewelry or the red chile ristras (though trust me, we'll get to those soon enough)! Instead, I want to share a personal wellness challenge I encountered—and the natural solution that saved my sleep. When Elevation Meets Heart Rate: My Nighttime Challenge Picture this: Days filled with exploration, adobe architecture, and green chile everything. I felt fantastic wandering through galleries and markets, seemingly adapting well to the high elevation of Santa Fe (7,000 feet above sea level!) and Albuquerque. But when nighttime arrived and I settled into my hotel room by 9pm, my body had different plans. Despite feeling physically tired, my heart had apparently joined a drumming circle of its own! As someone who carefully monitors my higher heart rate and blood pressure, I could immediately feel the difference—my heart was working overtime, beating harder and faster than usual as I tried to rest. Hour after hour passed (hotel room by 9pm, sleep nowhere in sight until around 1am), leaving me staring at the ceiling, all too aware of each pronounced heartbeat. My Natural Travel Companion to the Rescue This is where I'm eternally grateful for my travel wellness kit. As I've been a doTERRA wellness advocate for several years, I started packing mini travel bottles of doTERRA essential oils for various situations. One small bottle became my nighttime hero: Ylang Ylang essential oil. For several years, I've relied on this floral wonder to help naturally reduce my heart rate when needed. That first restless night in New Mexico, I remembered my trusted ally. With gentle, intentional movements, I applied a few drops in a circular motion over my chest area for about a minute, while taking slow deep breaths. The effect wasn't instantaneous magic—but it was something better: gentle, natural support. Within about 10-15 minutes, I could feel my heart rate decrease by approximately 10 BPM. Just enough to quiet that internal drumbeat and allow sleep to finally find me. A Wellness Reminder for Elevation Travelers Whether you're planning a personal trip or organizing a group wellness retreat to beautiful high-elevation destinations like New Mexico, Colorado, or Utah, remember that our bodies sometimes need extra support to adjust. The decreased oxygen levels at higher altitudes cause our hearts to work harder to deliver oxygen throughout the body—a perfectly normal physiological response, but one that can disrupt sleep and comfort. Some natural approaches that might help:
Looking Ahead: Wellness Retreats in the Land of Enchantment This personal experience has only deepened my excitement about planning group and wellness retreats in New Mexico. Imagine yoga sessions against the backdrop of those painted desert skies, meditation walks through high desert landscapes, and wellness workshops in spaces filled with natural light and adobe warmth. The culturally rich environments of Santa Fe and Albuquerque offer the perfect settings for groups seeking both adventure and restoration. From the healing traditions of indigenous cultures to the artistic inspiration around every corner, these destinations align beautifully with holistic approaches to events and travel. I'll be sharing more about specific retreat locations, cultural experiences, and natural design elements in upcoming posts. But for now, I'll leave you with this: Sometimes our travel challenges become our most valuable teachers—and the solutions we discover become essential additions to our wellness toolkits. Have you experienced elevation adjustments in your travels? Or do you have a natural remedy that's saved your journey? I'd love to hear about it in the comments below! Until next time, happy (and well) travels! While its neighbor Napa typically gets all the glory, I've been a huge champion of Sonoma for over two decades now. My love for this wine region runs so deep, I'm going to have to separate this destination's blog for the incentive and wellness travel series into two. Here's part one! As an event planner and wine country enthusiast who has spent countless hours exploring the rolling hills and charming towns of Sonoma County, I already know this Northern California paradise offers far more than just world-class wineries. While the vineyards are undoubtedly magnificent, Sonoma's true magic lies in its diverse experiences that cater to corporate retreats, milestone celebrations, and everything in between. (It also typically has a more relaxed vibe with slightly more affordability than Napa to the East) Pushpak Motors: Sonoma's Unexpected Thrill Ride Let me share my absolute favorite Sonoma discovery from the past year: Pushpak Motors. This unique experience (https://www.pushpakmotors.net/) completely transformed my understanding of what a Sonoma outing could be. Imagine this: your group cruising through scenic back roads on eco-friendly motorized trikes, wind in your hair, surrounded by vineyard vistas. What makes this experience truly exceptional is its versatility. From corporate team-building events where executives trade boardroom tensions for belly laughs as they master their scooters, to birthday celebrations where friends create unforgettable memories zipping between wineries and picturesque viewpoints. The experience works best during Sonoma's warmer months (typically April through October), when clear skies and moderate temperatures create ideal riding conditions. What's particularly appealing for event planners is how Pushpak Motors can customize routes based on your group's interests, whether that's hitting specific wineries, focusing on scenic vistas, or creating a progressive dining experience. Charlie's Acres: Where Corporate Social Responsibility Meets Joy For groups looking to add meaning to their Sonoma experience, Charlie's Acres Farm Animal Sanctuary offers a refreshing alternative to traditional team-building activities. This haven for rescued farm animals provides corporate groups with a unique opportunity to combine team building with corporate social responsibility. Groups groups can connect while learning about animal welfare and sustainable farming practices. The sanctuary's spacious event areas make it ideal for company retreats that aim to incorporate purpose-driven activities. Watching executives and team members light up while interacting with the sanctuary's charismatic residents—from playful goats to gentle pigs—creates authentic bonding moments that simply can't be manufactured in a conference room. The combination of meaningful engagement and pure joy makes Charlie's Acres sanctuary a standout destination for groups seeking experiences with heart. Sonoma's Wine Experiences: Beyond the Ordinary While vineyard visits are expected in wine country, certain estates offer experiences that transcend the typical tasting. I'd love to share a couple of hidden gems that you may miss if you pay too much attention to the bigger labels: Landmark Vineyards: Elevated Elegance Landmark Vineyards stands out for its exceptional Chardonnay and Pinot Noir offerings, but what makes it particularly special for events is its gorgeous courtyard setting. The vineyard's hospitality team excels at customizing experiences, whether you're seeking a guided comparative tasting for wine enthusiasts or a more casual setting for team celebrations. Paradise Ridge Winery: Panoramic Perfection Perched atop a hill with breathtaking views of the Russian River Valley, Paradise Ridge Winery offers some of the most spectacular vistas in Sonoma County. The winery's expansive indoor and outdoor spaces make it extraordinarily versatile for events ranging from corporate gatherings to milestone celebrations. I particularly recommend this venue for sunset receptions—there's something magical about watching the golden light bathe the valley while sipping their estate wines. The winery's sculpture garden adds an artistic element that creates natural conversation starters for networking events or breakout sessions. The Sonoma Cheese Trail: A Tasty Team Adventure If you know me at all, you know I LOVE cheese, so how could I not get excited about the Sonoma Cheese Trail? For groups seeking a delicious alternative to wine tasting, Sonoma's artisanal cheese scene offers a delightful change of pace. I often incorporate cheese trail stops into custom itineraries, creating progressive tasting experiences that highlight the county's dairy excellence. Here are a couple of my favorite highlights: Vella Cheese Company: A Taste of Tradition This historic cheesemaking facility in Sonoma Plaza has been crafting artisanal cheeses since 1931. Their aged dry jack cheese with its distinctive black coating is legendary. For corporate groups, I've arranged behind-the-scenes tours where teams can learn about the meticulous aging process while sampling their extraordinary creations. Sonoma Cheese Factory: Contemporary Craft Complementing Vella's traditional approach, the Sonoma Cheese Factory showcases more contemporary cheesemaking techniques. Their interactive tastings are particularly effective for breaking the ice among team members or clients who are just getting acquainted. I love pairing a visit here with a guided wine pairing session afterward, creating a progressive epicurean experience. Luxurious Accommodations: Where Business Meets Pleasure The right lodging can elevate a Sonoma experience from memorable to extraordinary: Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa: Incentive Travel Excellence When clients ask for the ultimate Sonoma experience for incentive groups or executive retreats, the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa tops my recommendation list. This historic property, built over a thermal spring, combines old-world charm with contemporary luxury. The resort's world-class spa facilities make it perfect for wellness-focused corporate retreats, while their exceptional dining options eliminate the need to travel for memorable group meals. I've witnessed multi-day executive gatherings where the Fairmont's seamless service allowed participants to focus entirely on connection and collaboration rather than logistics. With so many indoor and outdoor options, it won't be a chore to try and keep everyone on the property throughout the program. Hyatt Sonoma Wine Country: Strategic Centrality For corporate groups prioritizing both meeting functionality and wine country access, the Hyatt Sonoma Wine Country in Santa Rosa offers the perfect balance. Its central location in Santa Rosa places groups within easy driving distance of dozens of premier wineries while providing all the technical amenities required for productive meetings. I appreciate the Hyatt's flexibility for corporate programs—their meeting spaces can be configured for everything from theater-style presentations to intimate breakout sessions, and their event staff understands the unique needs of business groups. After productive days, groups can enjoy the property's outdoor spaces and neighborhood walkability, creating a work-play balance that enhances overall program effectiveness. How can I help you plan Sonoma? The Insider Advantage
As someone who has spent years building relationships with local vendors and venue managers, I bring more than just knowledge of these destinations to your planning process. I offer access to exclusive experiences, preferred pricing, and insider recommendations that can elevate your Sonoma visit from enjoyable to extraordinary. When you're considering Sonoma for your next corporate retreat, incentive trip, or celebration, having a knowledgeable partner can make all the difference. From securing the perfect accommodations to arranging those special touches that make an event memorable, my experience in the region allows me to create tailored experiences that reflect your vision and objectives. Planning Your Sonoma Experience Whether you're intrigued by the idea of a Pushpak Motors adventure, a meaningful visit to Charlie's Acres, or exploring Sonoma's wineries and cheese trail, I'd love to hear about your vision for your next event or getaway. As someone who has planned everything from intimate retreats to large-scale corporate gatherings in this beautiful region, I'm passionate about helping clients discover their own perfect Sonoma experience. Reach out to discuss how we can create a customized Sonoma itinerary that will exceed expectations and create lasting memories for your group. There's always something new to discover in Wine Country, and I'd be thrilled to be your guide! Recently, I found myself immersed in an audiobook about food and mental health that challenged my personal views and habits about nutrition. As someone with certifications in nutrition who embraces a predominantly plant-based lifestyle, listening to a staunch advocate for keto and carnivore diets felt like venturing into uncomfortable territory. My first instinct? *Cringe* Maybe I can return it... But if I wanted to walk my talk about being open to other perspectives that don't necessarily align with my own, I had to keep listening. By the final chapter, while I hadn't abandoned my core nutritional philosophy, I had gained valuable insights about how different foods affect our bodies and minds. This unplanned journey reminded me of a powerful truth that applies perfectly to event planning: sometimes the most exciting and memorable events come from embracing perspectives that initially make us uncomfortable.
Why Flexibility Matters in Your Next Event In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to fall into planning routines. The same venues. Similar agendas. Predictable experiences. But just as I discovered unexpected value in that audiobook, your group might find transformative opportunities by exploring fresh approaches to your meetings, events, and travel programs. Breaking Free from Planning Patterns Consider how often we automatically dismiss ideas:
The Wellness Connection As a wellness-focused planner, I've seen firsthand how stepping outside comfort zones can enhance not just event outcomes but participant wellbeing. That unconventional venue might offer opportunities for natural light and movement. The unexpected destination might provide unique stress-reduction experiences. Just as understanding different nutritional perspectives expanded my toolkit for supporting health, exploring diverse event approaches can reveal new ways to incorporate wellness elements that energize participants and boost engagement. Practical Steps for Perspective Flexibility
Remember that flexibility doesn't mean abandoning what works—it means expanding your toolkit to include approaches you might otherwise overlook. The Return on Openness The most memorable events I've planned have almost always involved an element that initially raised eyebrows. The leadership retreat where executives traded business casual for hiking boots. The sales conference that replaced traditional presentations with interactive problem-solving stations. The wellness program that incorporated local cultural practices alongside familiar fitness elements. In each case, the willingness to consider approaches outside the norm created experiences that participants still talk about—and that delivered measurable results. Your Next Extraordinary Experience Awaits I'm passionate about creating events that nurture both achievement and wellbeing, and that begins with an open mind about what's possible for your organization. What assumptions might be limiting your next event's potential? What fresh perspective might transform a routine meeting into something extraordinary? I'd love to explore these questions with you. Let's discover how flexibility in approach can create an event experience that exceeds expectations while supporting your group's wellbeing and goals. Together, we can design something truly remarkable—perhaps by venturing slightly beyond your comfort zone! Tucked away where California and Nevada meet, Lake Tahoe is a breathtaking destination—a vast, sapphire-blue lake cradled by the majestic Sierra Nevada mountains. Just a short 40-minute drive from Reno’s major airport, your journey to this stunning alpine retreat is as scenic as the destination itself. At OmniEra, we specialize in curating unforgettable incentive travel experiences and transformative retreats, so revisiting Lake Tahoe post-pandemic was a must. And let me tell you, this mountain paradise continues to impress with its endless charm and versatility. Whether you’re looking for vibrant energy or serene relaxation, Lake Tahoe offers an array of accommodations to suit your vision. Indulge in the lively atmosphere of Nevada’s iconic casino resorts like the Golden Nugget and Harvey’s, or opt for a cozy, intimate escape at The Coachman Hotel. No matter the season, there’s a perfect lakeside setting for you. During my recent stay, I explored the newly remodeled Margaritaville Resort in South Lake Tahoe. Located quite literally on the state line (yes, one step across the street, and you’re in Nevada!), this resort is a refreshing blend of laid-back luxury and adventure. With a heated indoor pool, hot tub, multiple bars and restaurants, golf club and ski storage, and Heavenly Resort in its backyard, it’s a prime location. Plus, it’s within walking distance to shopping, casinos, and the Tahoe Blue Event Center—ideal for those looking to mix business with pleasure. For an unforgettable afternoon, start with a leisurely lunch at Riva Grill, where sweeping lake views set the perfect backdrop. Then, step right onto the dock for a cruise across Lake Tahoe. One of my most magical moments was aboard the Spirit of Lake Tahoe, watching delicate snow flurries dance around us as we glided toward the breathtaking Emerald Bay—a scene straight out of a postcard. And when the sun sets, the adventure continues. Unwind with a cocktail at Wolf by Vanderpump at Harrah’s (think Twilight meets ultra-chic elegance) before enjoying a night of entertainment and casino excitement at the interlinked Caesars properties.
Lake Tahoe is a destination that offers inspiration, relaxation, and adventure—all in one spectacular setting. Whether you're planning a corporate retreat, an incentive getaway, or a rejuvenating escape, let OmniEra craft an experience that brings your vision to life. Ready to plan your next event or retreat in Lake Tahoe? Let’s make it unforgettable. Let’s be real about diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA). Putting aside the noise of current events, let’s focus on how DEIA directly impacts businesses and the economy. While it’s undeniably the right thing to do for humanitarian reasons, some may still question its practicality. For those seeking a more tangible perspective, let’s explore DEIA through a financial lens. DEIA policies and practices offer a host of advantages that drive business success and financial growth. Here are five key ways DEIA makes good business sense:
DEIA isn’t just about doing what’s right—it’s about doing what’s smart. It’s a strategic investment in innovation, talent, and growth, ensuring businesses not only survive but thrive in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world. Let us know your thoughts. Earlier this January, the Northern California and Napa-Sonoma Chapters of ILEA (International Live Event Association) led their annual joint program at the Lighthouse at Glen Cove Marina with a very important theme: Mental Wellness, particularly focusing on those of us in events and hospitality, but a key topic for us all. Shining a light on mental wellness and reducing the stigma is a much needed push we need to continue to have in our society. While everyone in any occupation is affected, those of us in hospitality and live events face a unique type of challenge with both being one of the top 5 most stressful jobs reported year after year, and in such a public facing role where we all need to be "on" all the time. (The world is burning! ...As we have a big grin on our face to make everyone else feel like things are going smoothly). I was thankful to share my story briefly alongside fellow speakers Jill McDonald, Patrick McMichael and Elizabeth Becker. Each of us has gone through a transformation in our lives from a mental health perspective and are now able to share to give strength and hope to others that may be struggling with similar processes. After my introduction I was able to lead the group through a short exercise in becoming mindful and present at the beginning of the program to set the tone and intention for the rest of the program, which included activities such as sharing circles that I was able to lead one of the two. I must say, I don't think I've ever attended an event with such transparency, vulnerability, strength and support as this one! It truly took the attendees having a safe place in which to share their own stories, create connections, and help each other with suggestions and ideas on how to get through the difficult times and experiences that we all must face at one time or another. The joint program featured healthy meal and snack offerings, as well as a variety of delicious (not sugar overloaded!) healthy mocktails alongside the always highlighted signature cocktails from Chris Evans Catering and San Francisco Cocktail Club. There were areas to have a quiet reflective space, a beautiful sunset walk along the marina, and plenty of networking time for everyone to regroup and connect on their experience and how we can continue to support each other's businesses.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible. It was a perfect example how what we need to do, how we need to do it, and why it is so needed in our work and homelives, especially these days! Thanks to our other event sponsors: The Lux Productions, CORT Rentals, AM Party Rentals, Snap Fiesta, Peace of Kate and Duy Ho Photography. These next few weeks we'll be focusing on destinations that highlight some of our favorite attributes of events we specialize in: Incentive Travel, Wellness, and Retreats of all kinds... I’ve been to San Diego a lot, and much more frequently the last couple of years. Coronado though - the mysterious island I could see from San Diego’s shore - was elusive to me. Appearing to be a place I SHOULD know: sunny Southern California, steps away from Mexico, possibly a quiet retreat area but close enough to a metropolitan city where a vibrant nightlife and accessible transportation were possible - it climbed to the top of my list of destinations I wanted to know more about. Thankfully, an outreach by Discover Coronado changed all that. First question upon arrival: How long would it take to get from the San Diego Airport (SAN) to the island? Was it complicated to go over the bridge? Any concerns were put to rest as the car reached the island of Coronado in 10 minutes, with a total of 15 minutes from airport pickup to my hotel at Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa. The Coronado Marriott is a beautiful and quiet 3 story property with beautiful views of the San Diego coast across the water. I arrived with lack of sleep after waking up early for the HMCC course before my flight, and the restaurant bartender was very kind and patient helping me find an appropriate caffeinated drink to make it through the rest of the day. For those of us that are into wellness (hello, OmniEra & SamTalia!) the resort has a TON of on site activities besides their spa and sauna area. There are watersports, tennis courts, and I FINALLY played pickleball for my first time! Dinner on site at Albaca restaurant was delicious with a variety of food, and they partner with local wineries both in Southern California and nearby Mexico, which is driving distance. Morning began with a short walk along the shoreline to the California Princess by Flagship San Diego for a breakfast harbor cruise, with narration to help explain all the fascinating history and key points of interest for the naval station area. After a morning meal, it was wonderful to walk around Coronado to our next stop at Glorietta Bay Inn. Coronado is VERY walkable between many hotels, shops, and the coastline and this was very welcome, as many conferences and vacations often leave you sitting for too long without much activity. Glorietta Bay Inn is a quaint property, ideal for small groups and associations that are looking for an alternative to a big box hotel. Just a couple of blocks away was the famous Hotel Del Coronado, which was undergoing a massive renovation to upgrade its historic rooms alongside Coronado Beach. There are several buildings on the sprawling property which can cater to a variety of attendees, whether you’re looking for a more classic or modern feel. Picturesque and Instagram-worthy photo ops are in abundance, and lunch in the round Cornet Room with panoramic views was a highlight. While there are several shops on property, downtown Coronado is also walking distance, with shops and restaurants aplenty.
Lowes Coronado Bay Resort may require a drive, but the expansive property with views that can’t be beat is worth it. Ideal for conferences and groups that want a little more privacy or to keep everyone on site, there are several sizes of meeting space and a large ballroom, and outdoor areas to take advantage of the year-round temperate climate. Dinner in the Avalon room had a view of San Diego’s gorgeous sunset that can’t be beat. The staff organized a team building experience, where my eyes watered up due to onion cutting by my teammate. (I wear onion goggles at home!) The staff was wonderfully hospitable, and the group’s dinner activity experience was a fun way to end our time together. Even if you’re not a cook - I was afraid I’d mess up cutting mushrooms - they made it inclusive so there was something for everyone. My final day on this beautiful island began at Feast & Fareway for a yummy breakfast before my first golf lesson. My grandpa was an avid golfer throughout his life, with many of my memories of him sitting on his recliner watching golf on television, and I have wanted to learn for several years. (Shout out to Veronica Rivera from San Diego Tourism who was the girl-power pro in our group). After getting our swing stance down, drives down the fairway, and put-put holes, it was time to depart. I’m extremely thankful to have had my long-awaited visit to discover all of what Coronado has to offer, and it surpassed my expectations. If you have a group that is looking for a retreat of any kind, from VIP to wellness, or just looking for a relaxing destination with so many conveniences such as easy access and walkability, I’d love to see what we can create together on this unique island that has so much to offer. Extra thanks to Danielle Rosetto from Discover Coronado and all the properties and suppliers that made this experience happen. I hope to work with you all soon! |
