Recently, I found myself immersed in an audiobook about food and mental health that challenged my personal views and habits about nutrition. As someone with certifications in nutrition who embraces a predominantly plant-based lifestyle, listening to a staunch advocate for keto and carnivore diets felt like venturing into uncomfortable territory. My first instinct? *Cringe* Maybe I can return it... But if I wanted to walk my talk about being open to other perspectives that don't necessarily align with my own, I had to keep listening. By the final chapter, while I hadn't abandoned my core nutritional philosophy, I had gained valuable insights about how different foods affect our bodies and minds. This unplanned journey reminded me of a powerful truth that applies perfectly to event planning: sometimes the most exciting and memorable events come from embracing perspectives that initially make us uncomfortable.
Why Flexibility Matters in Your Next Event In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to fall into planning routines. The same venues. Similar agendas. Predictable experiences. But just as I discovered unexpected value in that audiobook, your group might find transformative opportunities by exploring fresh approaches to your meetings, events, and travel programs. Breaking Free from Planning Patterns Consider how often we automatically dismiss ideas:
The Wellness Connection As a wellness-focused planner, I've seen firsthand how stepping outside comfort zones can enhance not just event outcomes but participant wellbeing. That unconventional venue might offer opportunities for natural light and movement. The unexpected destination might provide unique stress-reduction experiences. Just as understanding different nutritional perspectives expanded my toolkit for supporting health, exploring diverse event approaches can reveal new ways to incorporate wellness elements that energize participants and boost engagement. Practical Steps for Perspective Flexibility
Remember that flexibility doesn't mean abandoning what works—it means expanding your toolkit to include approaches you might otherwise overlook. The Return on Openness The most memorable events I've planned have almost always involved an element that initially raised eyebrows. The leadership retreat where executives traded business casual for hiking boots. The sales conference that replaced traditional presentations with interactive problem-solving stations. The wellness program that incorporated local cultural practices alongside familiar fitness elements. In each case, the willingness to consider approaches outside the norm created experiences that participants still talk about—and that delivered measurable results. Your Next Extraordinary Experience Awaits I'm passionate about creating events that nurture both achievement and wellbeing, and that begins with an open mind about what's possible for your organization. What assumptions might be limiting your next event's potential? What fresh perspective might transform a routine meeting into something extraordinary? I'd love to explore these questions with you. Let's discover how flexibility in approach can create an event experience that exceeds expectations while supporting your group's wellbeing and goals. Together, we can design something truly remarkable—perhaps by venturing slightly beyond your comfort zone!

Tucked away where California and Nevada meet, Lake Tahoe is a breathtaking destination—a vast, sapphire-blue lake cradled by the majestic Sierra Nevada mountains. Just a short 40-minute drive from Reno’s major airport, your journey to this stunning alpine retreat is as scenic as the destination itself. At OmniEra, we specialize in curating unforgettable incentive travel experiences and transformative retreats, so revisiting Lake Tahoe post-pandemic was a must. And let me tell you, this mountain paradise continues to impress with its endless charm and versatility. Whether you’re looking for vibrant energy or serene relaxation, Lake Tahoe offers an array of accommodations to suit your vision. Indulge in the lively atmosphere of Nevada’s iconic casino resorts like the Golden Nugget and Harvey’s, or opt for a cozy, intimate escape at The Coachman Hotel. No matter the season, there’s a perfect lakeside setting for you. During my recent stay, I explored the newly remodeled Margaritaville Resort in South Lake Tahoe. Located quite literally on the state line (yes, one step across the street, and you’re in Nevada!), this resort is a refreshing blend of laid-back luxury and adventure. With a heated indoor pool, hot tub, multiple bars and restaurants, golf club and ski storage, and Heavenly Resort in its backyard, it’s a prime location. Plus, it’s within walking distance to shopping, casinos, and the Tahoe Blue Event Center—ideal for those looking to mix business with pleasure. For an unforgettable afternoon, start with a leisurely lunch at Riva Grill, where sweeping lake views set the perfect backdrop. Then, step right onto the dock for a cruise across Lake Tahoe. One of my most magical moments was aboard the Spirit of Lake Tahoe, watching delicate snow flurries dance around us as we glided toward the breathtaking Emerald Bay—a scene straight out of a postcard. And when the sun sets, the adventure continues. Unwind with a cocktail at Wolf by Vanderpump at Harrah’s (think Twilight meets ultra-chic elegance) before enjoying a night of entertainment and casino excitement at the interlinked Caesars properties.
Lake Tahoe is a destination that offers inspiration, relaxation, and adventure—all in one spectacular setting. Whether you're planning a corporate retreat, an incentive getaway, or a rejuvenating escape, let OmniEra craft an experience that brings your vision to life. Ready to plan your next event or retreat in Lake Tahoe? Let’s make it unforgettable. Let’s be real about diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA). Putting aside the noise of current events, let’s focus on how DEIA directly impacts businesses and the economy. While it’s undeniably the right thing to do for humanitarian reasons, some may still question its practicality. For those seeking a more tangible perspective, let’s explore DEIA through a financial lens. DEIA policies and practices offer a host of advantages that drive business success and financial growth. Here are five key ways DEIA makes good business sense:
DEIA isn’t just about doing what’s right—it’s about doing what’s smart. It’s a strategic investment in innovation, talent, and growth, ensuring businesses not only survive but thrive in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world. Let us know your thoughts. Earlier this January, the Northern California and Napa-Sonoma Chapters of ILEA (International Live Event Association) led their annual joint program at the Lighthouse at Glen Cove Marina with a very important theme: Mental Wellness, particularly focusing on those of us in events and hospitality, but a key topic for us all. Shining a light on mental wellness and reducing the stigma is a much needed push we need to continue to have in our society. While everyone in any occupation is affected, those of us in hospitality and live events face a unique type of challenge with both being one of the top 5 most stressful jobs reported year after year, and in such a public facing role where we all need to be "on" all the time. (The world is burning! ...As we have a big grin on our face to make everyone else feel like things are going smoothly). I was thankful to share my story briefly alongside fellow speakers Jill McDonald, Patrick McMichael and Elizabeth Becker. Each of us has gone through a transformation in our lives from a mental health perspective and are now able to share to give strength and hope to others that may be struggling with similar processes. After my introduction I was able to lead the group through a short exercise in becoming mindful and present at the beginning of the program to set the tone and intention for the rest of the program, which included activities such as sharing circles that I was able to lead one of the two. I must say, I don't think I've ever attended an event with such transparency, vulnerability, strength and support as this one! It truly took the attendees having a safe place in which to share their own stories, create connections, and help each other with suggestions and ideas on how to get through the difficult times and experiences that we all must face at one time or another. The joint program featured healthy meal and snack offerings, as well as a variety of delicious (not sugar overloaded!) healthy mocktails alongside the always highlighted signature cocktails from Chris Evans Catering and San Francisco Cocktail Club. There were areas to have a quiet reflective space, a beautiful sunset walk along the marina, and plenty of networking time for everyone to regroup and connect on their experience and how we can continue to support each other's businesses.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible. It was a perfect example how what we need to do, how we need to do it, and why it is so needed in our work and homelives, especially these days! Thanks to our other event sponsors: The Lux Productions, CORT Rentals, AM Party Rentals, Snap Fiesta, Peace of Kate and Duy Ho Photography. These next few weeks we'll be focusing on destinations that highlight some of our favorite attributes of events we specialize in: Incentive Travel, Wellness, and Retreats of all kinds... I’ve been to San Diego a lot, and much more frequently the last couple of years. Coronado though - the mysterious island I could see from San Diego’s shore - was elusive to me. Appearing to be a place I SHOULD know: sunny Southern California, steps away from Mexico, possibly a quiet retreat area but close enough to a metropolitan city where a vibrant nightlife and accessible transportation were possible - it climbed to the top of my list of destinations I wanted to know more about. Thankfully, an outreach by Discover Coronado changed all that. First question upon arrival: How long would it take to get from the San Diego Airport (SAN) to the island? Was it complicated to go over the bridge? Any concerns were put to rest as the car reached the island of Coronado in 10 minutes, with a total of 15 minutes from airport pickup to my hotel at Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa. The Coronado Marriott is a beautiful and quiet 3 story property with beautiful views of the San Diego coast across the water. I arrived with lack of sleep after waking up early for the HMCC course before my flight, and the restaurant bartender was very kind and patient helping me find an appropriate caffeinated drink to make it through the rest of the day. For those of us that are into wellness (hello, OmniEra & SamTalia!) the resort has a TON of on site activities besides their spa and sauna area. There are watersports, tennis courts, and I FINALLY played pickleball for my first time! Dinner on site at Albaca restaurant was delicious with a variety of food, and they partner with local wineries both in Southern California and nearby Mexico, which is driving distance. Morning began with a short walk along the shoreline to the California Princess by Flagship San Diego for a breakfast harbor cruise, with narration to help explain all the fascinating history and key points of interest for the naval station area. After a morning meal, it was wonderful to walk around Coronado to our next stop at Glorietta Bay Inn. Coronado is VERY walkable between many hotels, shops, and the coastline and this was very welcome, as many conferences and vacations often leave you sitting for too long without much activity. Glorietta Bay Inn is a quaint property, ideal for small groups and associations that are looking for an alternative to a big box hotel. Just a couple of blocks away was the famous Hotel Del Coronado, which was undergoing a massive renovation to upgrade its historic rooms alongside Coronado Beach. There are several buildings on the sprawling property which can cater to a variety of attendees, whether you’re looking for a more classic or modern feel. Picturesque and Instagram-worthy photo ops are in abundance, and lunch in the round Cornet Room with panoramic views was a highlight. While there are several shops on property, downtown Coronado is also walking distance, with shops and restaurants aplenty.
Lowes Coronado Bay Resort may require a drive, but the expansive property with views that can’t be beat is worth it. Ideal for conferences and groups that want a little more privacy or to keep everyone on site, there are several sizes of meeting space and a large ballroom, and outdoor areas to take advantage of the year-round temperate climate. Dinner in the Avalon room had a view of San Diego’s gorgeous sunset that can’t be beat. The staff organized a team building experience, where my eyes watered up due to onion cutting by my teammate. (I wear onion goggles at home!) The staff was wonderfully hospitable, and the group’s dinner activity experience was a fun way to end our time together. Even if you’re not a cook - I was afraid I’d mess up cutting mushrooms - they made it inclusive so there was something for everyone. My final day on this beautiful island began at Feast & Fareway for a yummy breakfast before my first golf lesson. My grandpa was an avid golfer throughout his life, with many of my memories of him sitting on his recliner watching golf on television, and I have wanted to learn for several years. (Shout out to Veronica Rivera from San Diego Tourism who was the girl-power pro in our group). After getting our swing stance down, drives down the fairway, and put-put holes, it was time to depart. I’m extremely thankful to have had my long-awaited visit to discover all of what Coronado has to offer, and it surpassed my expectations. If you have a group that is looking for a retreat of any kind, from VIP to wellness, or just looking for a relaxing destination with so many conveniences such as easy access and walkability, I’d love to see what we can create together on this unique island that has so much to offer. Extra thanks to Danielle Rosetto from Discover Coronado and all the properties and suppliers that made this experience happen. I hope to work with you all soon! 1/22/2025 0 Comments Same soul, new life.Tuesday January 21st 2025 may have marked the day of our new rebrand launch and website, and it started a new era here in the United States that has left many in some distressing uncertain times.
OmniEra was born in 2002 by a couple of artistic misfits. Our group consisted of renegade dancers, visual artists that pushed boundaries, and musicians emerging from the underground electronic music scene. Many of us were baby ravers in the late 1990s San Francisco Bay Area. Inclusivity, diversity, acceptance, support, and a safe place to be yourself went without question. After all, the mantra had always been "Peace, Love, Unity & Respect". A little over a decade later most of our events turned corporate, but here we are now, still with the same soul. No matter who walks into our events, we always want them to feel safe, comfortable, and seen. Wellness is our top priority, and that includes mental wellness too. No matter who you are, where you came from, what language you speak, what gender or orientation you identify with, what your religion is, or what color you dye your hair - all are welcome. Some say to keep politics out of business. We don't think it's radical to be nice and treat others with respect. We are mindful and intentional with our design and planning process. We care about each person that enters into their hotel room, walks into their conference session, steps on their plane, and goes out to dinner with a colleague. We are here to support, no matter your background. Plan with Peace, Lead with Love, Understand to Unify, and Reflect Respect. Together we can create beautiful moments of light that's needed to move through any dark. We look forward to working with you in 2025. 12/27/2024 0 Comments Ending 2024...By Samantha T. Marie
Saying it was a rough year would be an understatement. In July we had the unexpected and devastating loss of Carlos Alfonso Lopez, aka DJ Carlos Alfonzo, aka SUPRIMO, OmniEra artist since 2004 and best friend to me for the last two decades. We hadn't even recovered from the loss of Chris Madore, aka Cloudskipper, at the end of 2022, also OmniEra artist since 2004, right hand man for so many things we accomplished, and very dear friend to us both. Quite honestly, we were wondering if we were going to survive and myself, if I even wanted to. With both of them suddenly gone and among trying to get by emotionally on a personal level, the thought and desire to keep OmniEra going was difficult to see. Maybe it was time to quit, pack up, and move on to other things. "Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day." Carlos and I were the closest to each other and Chris and I talked more than almost anyone else in the last year he was on this earth. Because of this, it wasn't difficult to hear them, imagining what they would say or do in this situation. In some ways it has seemed like they haven't left, because their guidance and support is still felt, especially with Carlos being the biggest cheerleader of all the entire length of our friendship and OmniEra timeline. The answer wasn't to quit. In fact, the answer was to do quite the opposite. Suddenly it was so clear to jump in, rearrange, rebrand, refocus, reengage, and reemerge stronger than ever. The relationships we've developed over the years, the lessons we've learned we've turned around to support others, the passion we have to always create a memorable experience for every person and event - those have never stopped, they've always kept growing. And we can't imagine it any other way. The last couple of month's we've been in the process of crafting the next phase of OmniEra which will more fully embody our why, our passion, and our focus. We look forward to sharing our vision and new look with you in 2025! Stand by for our unique, personalized, and immersive experiences in all things events, entertainment, travel, wellness, and arts related - our five core focuses that we fervent about being exceptional for us and you! I'm at a loss for words at the conclusion of this year's Annual Conference Experience by @mpi.ncc that took place this last week at Convene in #SanFrancisco
From starting off as VP of Education this program year, to ending with @dima.ghawi 's impactful shattering of the vases that made me tear up a bit, it's been quite the Experience and ride with my fellow committee peers and board members. I wish I had two clones to have been able to see all the education I wanted to and take part in all the fun activations that there didn't seem to be enough time for, but I love seeing everyone enjoy themselves and leave with smiles. A quote from me on CSI DMC's newsletter: “Mental wellness affects us all in different degrees at various times. With the nature of our industry putting continuous pressure on our overall well-being, partnered with our role of ‘always needing a smile on our face’, it can come with great difficulty to discuss our needs and experiences with mental wellness openly. The panel by MPINCC brought up the topic of holistic health by chapter leaders who shared their own stories and struggles, which opened the door for transparent discussion to inform, support, and reduce stigma. Our mental and overall well-being is a crucially important topic that I'm passionate about in our industry and I'm thankful to have the opportunity to give more awareness to this issue for us all to find ways to stay healthy holistically and thrive. “ Extra special thanks to Janice Litvin who led the panel on mental wellness awareness in our industry and served as ACE Education Co-Chair, Vivian Perez, CMP Education Chair, and the rest of our amazing committee including Sue Meylan, CMP Bonnie Hoag, MBA Christa J. Guglielmelli, CMP, CWP, CITP Jody Brandes, HMCC, CMP-Fellow, CMM Myra Howay Melanie Lucero Soskita Green, HMCC Susan Piel, CMP Fellow, CMM, HMCC Donna Rogers CIS, SEPC, & Patricia Gums Deep gratitude for all the amazing speakers including Michael Dominguez, FASAE, CHSE for the opening general session Connecting the Dots, Frank King the Mental Health Comedian, Jim Spellos and his mind-blowing AI, Scott Beck with SF Travel & Zeke Ramsell , David T. Stevens®, PMED , my fellow panelists Andrew Verducci and Patrick McMichael, CSEP who did so much more, and many other speakers who gave everyone such enriching content throughout the program. Thank you, and I'm already looking forward to next year after some much needed rest! 9/11/2023 0 Comments PCMANCC's L.E.A.P. 2023 in Napa!In less than 3 weeks, PCMANCC arrives in Napa for it's flagship educational program, L.E.A.P. 2023: Event EQ for today's meeting and event industry professionals on October 1st & 2nd.
